- The decals on the frame are consistent with 1980-81 Schwinn bicycles. So this gives the year the frame was manufactured (or imported into Denmark). I have no information as to the model. You are all laughing now and asking: How does a Schwinn frame get a Danish VIN for a serial number?
- This means you can enter a vintage (1948-1982) schwinn serial number and get info about when it was manufactured. It was a big job, and I am not through yet, but it currently works for most serial numbers that are 6 or 7 characters long.

THIS CHART APPLIES TO CHICAGO SCHWINN`S ONLY. During the 1980s, Greenville used the old letter-digit (e.g. F8 = June 1988)system which Chicago abandoned in 1965, when it changed to the two-letter system. ON NEWER BIKES: you can find a 4 digit serial number lightly stamped onto the headbadge. The first three digits are the numerical day of the year.
Serial numbers are now on the lower left of the head tube, by the Schwinn badge on front of the frame

The first letter is the month, the second letter is the year.
I and O are skipped so as to avoid confusion with 1 and 0.Examples:
